Virtual conference

My teacher will go to Australia to make a conference about E-learning. She askes us to think about 5 people of the past we will invite. My 5 guests will be:

Durkheim, Piaget, Freud, Weber and Freire. Piaget and Freud try to understand the human mind and his evolution during your life. The others three try to understand how the society create a person. These two goals are essential to education

Cross are forbidden on Christmas!

I read a post in Second Opinion about a young boy who was not allowed put an ornament on the school Christmas tree because it contains a cross. The comments are all against the act of the teacher. Some ones are Christians and believe it was wrong because Christmas is a Christian’s holiday. Others don’t agree with the fact the child is the only one who couldn’t hang his ornament.

I think they are right because a young child not even now what is a religion. Another think I though is ridiculous is U.S which do that. It’s a kind of hypocrisy because the president and witnesses swear on the Bible and after every political speech they say “God bless America”. In the U.S 30% of the population doesn’t believe in Darwin because they are Christians. In a country which has a so great participation of the Church, a teacher can’t deny a young child to put an ornament with a cross in a tree representing the greatest party of Christian’s religion.

In France, we have the same kind with problem with the Muslims. They girls can’t use the cloth because it shows a religion. I though it is ridiculous. Everyone can use clothes that show their religion anywhere.

The only problem is he can leave aside religion and do what they have to do. Like for example a person who can’t learn Darwin because his religion doesn’t agree with Darwin. Religion is personal. He can’t avoid doing something is better to the community if our religion said it’s wrong

The man try to prove to himself he is better than the nature but he doesn’t outwit the nature in the right level. He explores the nature and doesn’t thing in the future. Man must remember the nature and them are one. They must live respecting each other.
I made the poster trying to pass this message to my schoolmates.

The Saint Louis Cathedral

If you were in New Orleans, you should go to the Saint Louis Cathedral. The Saint Louis cathedral is in the French Quarter near the Cabildo and the Presbytere, others touristy points. This church is the oldest cathedral in North America. First it was a wooden church built in 1718. After it collapsed, another one was built in 1725 to 1727. This one was destroyed in the Great New Orleans Fire (178 8) on Good Friday on 21 March, 1788. The last one was built in 1789 and finished in 1794. In 1793 became a cathedral and in 1819 a clock and a bell was added. The church was renenw several times.  Now it is a minor basilica and the Pope John Paul II visited it in 1987.
The most interesant is the history of this church during the hurricane Katrine. The hurricane didn’t affect the french quarter in New Orleans. The Hurricane was coming to the church, and suddently it changed of direction and didn’t destroy completely New Orleans. The hurricane have only destroyed, in the church, two fingers of Jesus’ Statue. Rumours say that Jesus saves New Orleans.

If I were you, I would go to this church. Is a kind of link with the past. And also is a beautiful masterpiece of architecture.

Rebels

Rebels are persons who go against the society. In the way, they refuse to obey the constraints imposed by another. They are not conformist like the rest of the people. Rebels are different, they not look down, they look up, and they are brave enough to go against the system. A system is wrong, in their point of view.

Therefore, they are seen by society like anarchist or persons too revolutionary, too extremist. In instance we can see the punks. The Sex Pistols, a punk band, is known to have sung “God Save the Queen” in the Queen Elizabeth’s Silver Jubilee in the
Thames in the front of the Parliament in 1977. The song shocked English society and was censured. This is one of many examples of rebels in history. Whereas, rebels are seem sometimes like heroes. Martin Luther King is one of them. She fought against racism in the U.S and was shot by James Earl Ray in 1968 while she visits
Memphis. In the both case they are persons who didn’t agree with the government and both accepted to go against them.

In my opinion, I think society needs to have rebels. Rebels are the main source of a well-structured democracy. Because, lots of points of view are the base from a democracy. A great example of rebels who fight for the democracy is V in the movie V for Vendetta. It tells the story of a man who fought against a fascist dictatorship which has been established after Thatcher’s government. This character is inspired in a real man, Guy Fawkes, who tries to explode the Parliament in November 5th 1605. The night is remembered by the name of “gunpowder treason”. He has for goal to exterminate the absolutist government in place. In these two examples the rebels doesn’t fight against the power without reasons, the fight for our right of freedom.  In that case they are considered like rebels in their times. But after they aren’t forget like others rebels. They can’t be forgetting because they sacrificed their selves for an ideal. They are heroes.

One of the ways to see like some rebels are unforgettable is the popular song of the Gunpowder plot:

Remember, remember the fifth of November, The gunpowder, treason and plot, I know of no reason why the gunpowder treason Should ever be forgot.

Transplant: What to do?

I saw a post in Second Opinion about transplants and if it is ethical  to do transplants. Many persons comment and all are favorable to the transplants. However, the discussion is mostly about what to do to wait for an organ. All around the country there are more people queuing than there are organs. Besides, we have mainly the question to whom give the organ first : to an older person or a younger one.  I don’t know much about the situation in the U.S. but in Brazil there are many problems. Priority  is given to the person who will live longer with it. The government asks hospitals to make many tests and decides who the organ will fit best. Preference is given to people who are younger than 19 years old or are diabetic because this is more urgent. It is a good idea, however, I feel  it is a little bit unfair. What happens is that a person who has just made the request this morning receives the organ tomorrow and a person who has been waiting for a year ago has to wait for ten years more. I think the main problem is the fact we don’t have enough organs for all. The solution may be to force everybody who is fit to donate their organs.  In Brazil, this would be a good way to solve the situation because most people don’t know we can donate organs. We have another problem: after a person dies, the family chooses what to do with the body. This means that a person who wants to give his liver, can’t because his wife doesn’t want or wants to give it to a friend. This is unfair because this friend may not be in a critical condition. My suggestion would solve all these problems as regards to number of  organs.  The waiting issue is gone when there are enough organs

In the Estação da Luz, we can find a subway station, a music chamber and the museum of Portuguese language . It is the first museum dedicated to a language. Ironically, in the opening it has a clerical error.

This title is one sentence made by Descates, a philosopher. It’s in Latin and that mean: I think so I exist. THat means people who don’t think about important think don’t are someone. I think if I become a philosopher, I’ll be remember during thousand of years. I think is mportant to think and analyse our existence and our origins.
